Game 3

Sorry for not posting after the last game. I have been in my room with the lights off and blinds closed since the game 2 loss. I hate losing. It looks like the Canucks are going to have to go 16-1 in the playoffs now. Despite the loss, many people still purchased a goat and bumped the total up to 367. At least somebody will win after the Canucks loss in game 2. Game 3 is right around the corner with a start time of 5:00pm PST tonight. Not having Salo in the line up hurts, but the Canucks are use to playing through injuries this year. After the wake up call they received last game I expect Vancouver to come out flying tonight.

For any of you that can read German… or Swiss? There is an article I found about Goat Canucks Goat today from a German (Or Swiss) website. You can read about a great cause AND brush up on your language skills at the same time at http://www.bluewin.ch/de/index.php/521,142227/Pro_Sieg_eine_Ziege/

Derek Jory, an online writer for the Vancouver Canucks, has a “beard watch” on the Canucks official website. For today’s picture he is sporting a Goat Canucks Goat t-shirt! I appreciate his wearing the shirt, but I am jealous of those of you who can actually grow a beard. I thought for sure by the second round the patches would have filled in, but I was wrong. Oh well. It’s the thought that counts.

Let’s hope the Canucks get back on track tonight so we can pump up the goat-o-meter!

Blackhawk Down!

Vancouver takes game 1 of the series by a score of 5-3! The Canucks got out to a great start and led 3-0 going into the third. That’s when me saying “I don’t think we’ll ever lose again” during the second intermission came back to bite me. The next thing I knew it was a 3-3 tie and I had chewed my free Canucks towel to threads out of anger. In the back of my mind I knew we had them right where we wanted them: tied late in the third with all the momentum. With some poor judgment by the inexperienced Blackhawks, Vancouver somehow managed to put together a four-on-one with just over a minute left. From where we were sitting in GM Place we could see the entire play develop. Raymond made a great pass to Bernier, who in typical Bernier fashion, missed the glorious opportunity. I should add that Bernier played a great game though. Salo was there to hammer in the rebound and give the Canucks the winning goal. Salo scored and GM Place exploded. Everybody became everybody’s best friend. I hugged more strangers after Salo scored than I did at our last family reunion. Ryan Johnson added an empty netter for insurance. With the Canucks finally playing hockey games again it’s time to make the goat-o-meter rise. Another win tonight means another goat for me. 5 goats down, 11 to go!  Game 2 is Saturday night at 6:00pm PST. Get your goat!

Bring on the Blackhawks!

The goat count is 322 as of this afternoon! That’s $8,050. Amazing. The support has still been incredible even though the Canucks are between series. After hearing about goat Canucks goat, a group of senior citizens in New Westminster has began a collection that will be used to dig a well and provide water to a community that needs it. This is also done though CRWRC. I also received an email from someone who is currently at the McMurdo Station in Antarctica. So we can now say we have had visitors to this web site from every continent in the world.

After last night’s hockey games, it is now official that the Vancouver Canucks will be playing the Chicago Blackhawks in the second round. The unofficial word is that game 1 is Thursday night at 6:00pm PST. If you remember what happened the last time Vancouver played Chicago it could be a very entertaining series. I wonder if there will be more hair pulling this time. In other Canucks related news, Ryan Kesler was nominated for the Selke trophy today. He is in some tough company against Pavel Datsyuk and Mike Richards but I think Kesler gets the edge because of the PowerSmart commercials he does where he blows an air horn in celebration each time somebody turns the lights off. Hockey smart and Power Smart. What a combo.

Sorry for the lack of updates over the past few days. You will be happy to know that I just finished my last exam and can now dedicate the amount of time Goat Canucks Goat is worthy of. I apologize directly to the goats for not updating lately. Sorry goats.

With an inexperienced Chicago team as the Canucks next opponent I am hoping to see the goat-o-meter keep rising!

Where you guys come from…

257 goats! Unbelievable! That’s $6,425 worth of goats donated by people. I thought that with a long break between Canucks games we would see a decline in the goat buying, but it has not slowed down. Thank you all very much.

If you are like me, you enjoy looking at stats. Since many visitors to the website are hockey fans, I assume most of you enjoy stats too. ex: Did you know that the only two goals Vlaimir Ruzicka scored in the 1990-1991 playoffs were game winners? Great stat. Here are some stats about the visitors to www.goatcanucksgoat.com…

Yesterday was another busy day for the web site with 2,131 visits through out the day. And I think only 2000 of those were from me. The website has had 19,000+ page views. We have had visitors from 466 cities in 43 countries around the world. As soon as we get our first visit from the Antarctica we will be able to say we’ve had visitors from every continent check out goat Canucks goat. As of last night, we have had visitors from 41 states in the USA and all the provinces/territories in Canada except Nunavut. After Canada and the USA, Switzerland is the country we have received the most hits from. 52.88% of our visitors use Internet Explorer as their browser, while only two of you use a browser called SeaMonkey. Iowa is the state that we have had the most visitors from with 69. California (60), Michigan (56) and Washington (52) are not far behind.

Thanks again to all the goat buyers. With a nice break before the next round of the playoffs begin it gives people some time to get up to speed in their goat buying!

200!!

We just received word from CRWRC that we have reached the 200 goats mark! WOW! Thank you so much to everyone who has got a goat! We set the original goat-o-meter at 100 to have something to reach for and we have already doubled that after only one round. Can you imagine how many goats will be got by the time the Canucks win the Stanley Cup? Amazing!

On the updated map that shows which country people are visiting this website from, we have now reached every continent except Antarctica! We had our first hit from South America yesterday with hits from Brazil.

For all the Canucks fans who were not able to make it to the airport at 3:00am after the Canucks won on Tuesday, I can tell you it was a good time. The Canucks all drove out in their cars and many of them had their windows rolled down and honked their horns. The best reaction of the night goes to Kevin Bieksa who was hanging out of the backseat of a car driven by Kyle Wellwood and let on a huge “woohoo!” with a celebratory fist pump. It was definitely worth the 3 hours of sleep I got that night!

THANK YOU!

This just in…151!!!

WHAT?! The new goat tally is at 151 purchased as of this afternoon….Words cannot even describe Vancouver Canucks fans. You are seriously the greatest fans in the world! We’ll get on resizing the goat-o-meter target point…for now lets just admire the current exploding goat-o-meter.

We’re on Canucks.com!

Derek Jory from Canucks.com has written an unreal article about us. Thanks so much Derek, this is huge!

An Excerpt:

“When Joel Nagtegaal was a small fry whipping around the neighborhood with a hockey stick, his dad taught him an important lesson that really stuck.

Always ask the other kids to play and if they don’t have a stick, we’ll get them one.

It was through that generosity that Nagtegaal developed a pay it forward attitude towards life, an attitude that is now benefiting people who suffer from poverty, hunger, disaster, and injustice.

Nagtegaal, a student at the University of the Frasier Valley, and a few buddies from his roller-hockey team were sitting around a few weeks ago mulling over who would grow the meanest playoff beard.

That led to playoff goatees, which led to playoff goats and Goat Canucks Goat was born…”

We will up the goat-o-meter target amount soon, so we can get ready for the Canucks in round 2!

Please remember, if you are Canadian, please use the Canadian “Buy a Goat” button on the right, or the correct link on the facebook page. This way CRWRC can send the correct tax receipt. This make it easier for them so they don’t have move any donations around from USA link to the Canadian one.

I believe we are going to be on Canucks.com today at around 11am, so be sure to check that out.
